Below are answers to common questions about SafetyShades™, our product programs, facility ordering, optical coordination, and demonstrations.
Because certain aspects of SafetyShades™ are proprietary, detailed information regarding materials, construction, and other technical characteristics is intentionally limited on our public website.
SafetyShades™ is a purpose-built eyewear solution developed specifically around the needs and operating environment of correctional facilities. Our programs are designed to support appropriate vision needs while considering facility safety, operations, ordering, and optical coordination.
SafetyShades™ is designed primarily for correctional and institutional organizations, including applicable detention, correctional, medical, and administrative environments.
SafetyShades™ was founded by David Richard King and William Charles Archambault III, two Georgia Deputy Sheriffs whose firsthand correctional experience helped identify the need for a different approach to institutional eyewear.
SafetyShades™ grew from a desire to address a preventable safety concern identified through firsthand correctional experience while still supporting legitimate vision needs. That commitment continues to guide the development of our products and programs.
Yes. SafetyShades™ uses the patent-pending designation in connection with its filed patent application.
SafetyShades™ currently offers three primary program categories: Permanent SafetyShades™, Temporary SafetyShades™, and SafetyShades™ Readers. Each is intended to address a different type of facility vision need.
Permanent SafetyShades™ are intended for individuals requiring prescription eyewear as part of an ongoing vision-care need. Individual optical information is handled separately through the designated optical workflow.
Temporary SafetyShades™ provide participating facilities with a facility-managed option for applicable temporary vision-support needs.
Detailed power ranges, inventory recommendations, and other program specifications are discussed directly with participating facilities rather than published online.
SafetyShades™ Readers provide a reader-style option for applicable facility vision needs within the broader SafetyShades™ program structure.
No. Facilities can evaluate which SafetyShades™ program or combination of programs best fits their population, current processes, and operational needs.
That does not prevent a facility from evaluating SafetyShades™. We can learn how your current process operates and discuss whether one or more SafetyShades™ programs may complement or improve the approach already in place.
SafetyShades™ can work with facility personnel to evaluate the available program options and discuss an appropriate starting structure based on the facility's needs and procedures.
SafetyShades™ is designed as an institutional solution and is not currently structured as a direct-to-consumer retail product.
The general SafetyShades™ ordering process is designed so that SafetyShades™ does not need patient-specific prescription information to review and manage the operational portion of an order.
Prescription and other applicable clinical information should be handled separately through the designated optical workflow.
No. Inmate, patient, prescription, medical, or other protected health information should not be submitted through SafetyShades™ public forms or general facility ordering fields.
SafetyShades™ requires the applicable non-PHI operational information necessary to identify, review, approve, track, and manage a facility order.
The exact fields will depend on the program and established facility workflow.
Patient-specific prescription and applicable clinical information is handled through the designated optical provider's separate process rather than through the general SafetyShades™ ordering workflow.
The separation allows SafetyShades™ to manage the commercial and operational aspects of facility orders without unnecessarily receiving clinical information that is not needed for those responsibilities.
SafetyShades™ incorporates proprietary product development. Detailed information regarding materials, construction, design characteristics, and other technical aspects is intentionally limited on our public website.
Qualified facility and institutional professionals can evaluate the product more directly through a demonstration with our team.
Our team provides an opportunity to see SafetyShades™ firsthand, discuss the needs the product was developed to address, learn about the available programs, and explore how an appropriate implementation could fit within the facility.
Depending on the facility, useful participants may include facility leadership, correctional operations personnel, medical or clinical staff, administrators, purchasing personnel, and procurement representatives.
Not every stakeholder must attend the initial meeting.
The first step is typically a conversation or demonstration with the SafetyShades™ team. From there, we can better understand the facility's current process, applicable needs, stakeholders, and purchasing requirements before determining an appropriate next step.
Use our Request a Demo page to provide basic facility and contact information. A member of the SafetyShades™ team will review the request and follow up to coordinate the appropriate next step.
