SafetyShades™ was founded in Georgia by David Richard King and William Charles Archambault III, two Deputy Sheriffs whose firsthand correctional experience inspired a shared commitment: finding practical ways to reduce unnecessary risk for staff and individuals in custody.
That commitment led to the development of eyewear specifically for correctional environments. Today, SafetyShades™ brings together firsthand facility experience, business experience, and practical implementation to help correctional organizations evaluate a more purpose-built approach to vision support.

Born and raised in Georgia, David has served with a Georgia Sheriff’s Office for more than five years, with experience in both detention and courthouse operations. During his law enforcement career, he became a Crisis Intervention Team member and supported security for specialized inmate rehabilitation and mental-health programming.

Before entering law enforcement, David built experience across sales, regional business leadership, real estate, and the film industry. He studied Information Systems before completing his degree in Criminal Justice.
That combination of correctional experience, business background, and multidisciplinary problem-solving helps guide SafetyShades™ product strategy and long-term direction.

We believe opportunities to reduce unnecessary risk should be taken seriously. Our work begins with the goal of supporting safer environments for both correctional professionals and the individuals in their custody.
Solutions intended for correctional environments must make sense within actual facility operations. We approach development and implementation with those day-to-day realities in mind.
Safety is not a one-time objective. SafetyShades™ continues to evaluate its products and programs with the goal of learning, improving, and better supporting the facilities we serve.
SafetyShades™ was created from the belief that thoughtful, practical changes can reduce unnecessary risk without losing sight of legitimate vision needs. We remain committed to developing solutions that support safer correctional environments for the professionals who work within them and the individuals entrusted to their care.
